“we see her where we see her, which is everywhere”
acrylic paint and sewn beads 30x40”
This piece is very near and dear to my heart. It pictures several women dancing freely around a bonfire, as a node to the ancient female tradition of ecstatic dancing under the full moon. I have attended these gatherings for the past few years and was incredibly inspired by the spiritual and emotional impact they have on those involved.
In the sky, there are faint letters depicting words spoken by women at the gatherings, my own thoughts, and passages from “Women Who Run With Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. There are also faint and wispy feminine figures amongst the clouds that represent the women of the past who have also participated in this tradition. I hope this piece inspires the viewer to dance, to gather, to notice, and to surrender themselves to movement at least once in their lives.
